PPE supply for community optometry practices
UPDATE: A letter from NHS National Services Scotland was sent to all optometry practices on 16 November 2023 notifying that free NHS-supplied PPE will cease after 31 March 2024. Final orders for PPE to be delivered by this date must be placed by practices by February 2024.
For community optometry practices who self-order their PPE for NHS services provision, the PECOS system can be accessed at: https://nhsscot.pecosipm.com/.
PECOS accounts will be created for new practices as part of the Ophthalmic Listing process.
Any technical issues with the PECOS system should be logged with NHS National Services Scotland at: https://nhsnss.service-now.com/nssexternal.
Practices should be ordering PPE based on anticipated usage and current stock levels. If, after taking this into account, you think you’ll still have an excess of PPE that you won’t use then you can contact other optometry practices or primary care providers nearby (e.g. dentistry, pharmacy and General Practice) to see if they’d be happy to take your excess supply. Failing that, or alternatively, contact your local NHS Board Primary Care team who may be able to assist.
